Emergency Roof Repairs for Storm Damage and Leaks in Greater London

When a storm strips tiles, brings down a chimney pot or leaves water coming through the ceiling, the priority is to stop more water getting in. Ashlar Roofing offers emergency call-outs across Greater London, and we prioritise active leaks and storm damage. The first visit is about making the roof watertight: securing loose tiles, fixing tarpaulin or sheeting over the damaged area, and making safe anything that could fall. Once rain is kept out, we assess the full extent of the damage and plan a permanent repair.

Until help arrives, keep yourself and your household safe. Stay out of rooms where water is coming through the ceiling heavily, as wet plasterboard can give way. If water is near light fittings, sockets or the consumer unit, switch off the electrics to that area if it is safe to do so. Put buckets or towels down to catch drips and move valuables out of the way. Sending photos on WhatsApp of the damage, inside and out, helps us understand what is needed before we arrive.

How We Carry Out Emergency Roofers

The main stages of the job, from the first inspection to the final check.

  1. Understanding the Damage

You tell us what has happened and share any pictures you have, which helps us judge the urgency and the materials needed.

  2. Making It Watertight

On site, the damaged area is covered with tarpaulin or sheeting and secured, and loose materials are made safe.

  3. Finding the Full Extent

With the rain kept out, the roof is inspected to establish what has failed and what the permanent repair involves.

  4. Permanent Repair

The repair is quoted and carried out. We then review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Common Questions About Emergency Roofers

Should I go up on the roof to check the damage?

No. Wet or storm-damaged roofs are dangerous, and loose tiles can give way underfoot. Look from the ground or from a window, take pictures if you can, and leave the roof itself to us.

Can a roof be repaired in the rain?

Temporary weatherproofing can usually be fitted in wet weather, as long as it is safe to work. Permanent repairs, especially leadwork, mortar and flat roof membranes, need drier conditions, which is why the roof is made watertight first and the full repair follows.

Is storm damage covered by home insurance?

Many buildings policies cover sudden storm damage, though gradual wear usually is not. Record the damage inside and out before anything is moved, and check with your insurer how they want a claim handled.

How long can a temporary repair last?

A well-secured tarpaulin or sheeting cover is meant to keep water out for a short period while the permanent repair is arranged. Wind and sunlight wear it down, so it is not a long-term fix and the permanent repair should follow as soon as practical.

Do you handle emergencies on commercial buildings?

Yes. Emergency call-outs cover commercial premises as well as homes, including flat roofs on shops, offices and industrial units.
